ABOUT COVID-19 TESTING AT THE MINOR ILLNESS & INJURY CLINIC
As case reports of the novel Coronavirus COVID-19 rose steadily in Manitoba in the early part of 2020, accurate information as to the exact number was invaluable. Testing was the best means of knowing how prevalent the virus was in our communities and was used extensively to inform policy.
In the fall of 2020, the province of Manitoba requested the assistance of community physicians to provide additional testing sites and resources.
As such, our group of ER physicians, nurses and support staff, in conjunction with our partners at Red River College, the Manitoba Office of the Fire Commissioner, the WRHA and Shared Services, created a novel model for clients who want a COVID-19 test performed but who also want that test to fit into their busy schedules. Our solution was an appointment-based, drive-thru testing site located at the Notre Dame campus of Red River College.
We started offering testing predominantly in the evenings and on weekends to compliment the existing testing infrastructure.
Over the course of the end of 2020, the entirety of 2021 and the first half of 2022, we have provided these services to thousands of Manitobans.
We could not have provided these services without the help and support of our dedicated staff as well as our partners at RRC Polytech, The Office of the Fire Commissioner, and Shared Services. We are extremely grateful to them all.
As the pandemic winds down, and the number of people needing PCR tests has dropped, we are shifting away from drive-thru testing to in-clinic testing. As such, effective June 30, 2022 we will shut down our drive-thru testing site at Red River College.
On July 2, 2022, all testing for COVID-19 will move to The Minor Illness & Injury Clinic located at 102-1001 Corydon Avenue in Winnipeg.
We will continue to offer only appointment based testing so please ensure that you book online prior to testing.
